Our Santa Barbara Veterinary Technicians and caring nurses are highly trained and always on hand to assist our doctors in the care of your pet. Our client relations staff will facilitate your visit and help keep you updated on your pet’s condition. Our support staff welcomes the opportunity to help you and your pet every step of the way.

Ashley Shirk

Registered Veterinary Technician

Ashley began her veterinary career five years ago, and specifically pursued a position at AVS to get experience in a specialty hospital, helping the sickest of animals.

Ashley attended Essex Community College and Salisbury University, where she earned her RVT and Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, respectively. In 2007, she interned for seven months at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, a wildlife refuge in Arkansas that rescues exotic animals. They have over 200 big cats, as well as bears, cougars, bobcats, and coyotes. The animals are typically surrendered from owners that either have them illegally or decide they no longer want them.

Outside of work, Ashley and her husband spend time with their own pets: two German shepherds and two cats.

Carolina Flores was born and raised in Santa Barbara and graduated from Charter College. Her passion lies in helping both animals and people in any way she can. When she’s not in the hospital she enjoys spending her free time reading, taking long walks on the beach, and traveling – where she can learn about various cultures.

Carolina lives with her family which includes two cats Chloe and Luna and her terrier mix Pumpkin.

Frankie lives in Oxnard, CA. When he’s not spending time with his son, he can be found hanging out with his friends and family members. His interests include Pharmacology and Toxicity.

Gaby lives in Santa Barbara with her fiancé and puggle Koda. When she’s not working, she enjoys volunteering at local animal shelters. She has a passion for traveling and experiencing new things and culture. She loves cheese. All kinds.

Jennifer

Registered Veterinary Technician

Jennifer has been working in Veterinary Medicine for 22 years and has been an RVT since 2005. She received her BS in Animal Science from Virginia Tech in 1998.

Originally from Virginia, she made the journey and transplant to Santa Barbara area in 2000. Here she began working primarily in Surgery and Emergency/Critical Care. She now resides in Carpinteria with her dog Hayley and kitty Biscuit.

In her free time, she enjoys scuba diving, hiking, and quality time with her dog at the beach. Her greatest accomplishments include moving to CA, becoming a Certified Scuba Diver, climbing Half-Dome at Yosemite, and owning a Bernese Mountain Dog.

Kerri Tidwell

Kerri has been in the veterinary industry for 5 years. Originally from Denver, Colorado, she has lived in Lompoc for 25 years. Kerri formerly worked at another veterinary practice in Santa Barbara, and has worked with Dr. Wells for several years.

Kerri is the mom of two sons, plus two cats.

Lauren Perry

Northern California native Lauren came to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB. After working as a zookeeper, Lauren was hired at AVS as a veterinary assistant to the doctors.

When not assisting the doctors or tending to her four-legged patients, Lauren spends her time rock climbing, hiking, biking, and dancing.

Leelah Cain

Leelah has lived in Santa Barbara for twenty years; she’s been in the veterinary care industry for the last seven years, after switching career paths from the retail styling field.

Leelah spends her time at AVS assisting the veterinarians during emergency care, and making sure pet owners are kept informed of their pet’s condition. She says what she appreciates about AVS is the staff’s vision to treat every animal as if it is their own. Outside of work, Leelah spends time with her daughter and their two pets: a cat, Kaluah, and their Chihuahua, Mocha.

When she’s not working with animals (which she adores), supporting local charities, or spending time at the beach, you can find Marly surrounded by all things food. Whether its spending time in the kitchen cooking up new recipes or prowling Santa Barbara for new and undiscovered restaurants, Marly is a tried and true foodie.

As a Certified Veterinary Assistant, you can find her in all corners of the hospital, assisting our doctors and technicians tend to patients. And as one of the friendliest people you’re ever likely to meet, you can sometimes find her up front in reception, warmly greeting clients and their pets to make their time with us as pleasant and stress-free as possible. That’s a win-win for all of us.

Monica Dziedzic

Registered Veterinary Technician

Originally from northern California, Monica moved to Santa Barbara in 2008 after living & working in Los Angeles for seven years. She has been working as a Registered Veterinary Technician since 1994 and has experience in a variety of departments & specialties. Some of these include general practice, Dermatology, Internal medicine, emergency medicine, critical care, surgery and oncology.

Anesthetic induction & monitoring, intravenous catheter placement and patient care are a few of her strongest skills.

Monica lives with her two dogs. Daisy, a miniature Dachsund & Farrah, a long coated Chihuahua. In her free time she enjoys to travel and spend time at the beach.

Musette Zamora

Musette spends her time at AVS tending to critical care patients during overnight hours. A third generation native to Santa Barbara, Musette has been in the veterinary field for twelve years; she will begin studying to become a Registered Veterinary Technician this year.

Musette says her love of animals and the fast-paced environment at AVS fuel her continued interest in veterinary medicine. She and her husband, Jamie, have two dogs, and they spend down time traveling, cooking, and enjoying live music.

Natalie Knox

Natalie has been in the veterinary care industry for seven years, and attended the Veterinary Technician program at Mt. San Antonio Community College. Passionate about animal health and welfare, Natalie says the compassionate care patients receive at AVS is a main factor in why she works for the animal hospital.

Natalie and her husband have two rescue cats and a dachshund; they spend their free time reading, hiking, and taking scenic drives through California.

Samantha

Technician Assistant

Originally from the Bay Area, Samantha graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a B.S. in Biopsychology. Her areas of interest include neurology and emergency medicine, both of which she plans to pursue in veterinary school. She is an avid animal rights defender, working to help abolish dog fighting rings and to bring more consistency and severity to the judicial process involving animal cruelty cases.

In her spare time (of which she has little) she can be found immersing herself in classic British romance novels.
