Mary Ellen McLoughlin, PhD, DVM (Emergency)
27 years of specialty experience, still always seeking answers.
Originally from New York, Dr. McLoughlin has been in the veterinary industry for 27 years. The doctor graduated from Iowa State University before completing her internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. Her specialty during her doctoral program was immunobiology, and her dissertation explored immunosuppressive effects of aflatoxin, a grain contaminant that affects livestock production and has caused dog food recalls in recent years.
Emergency and critical care is her passion.
Dr. McLoughlin switched from general practice veterinary care to emergency medicine ten years ago; she says she enjoys the challenge of treating complicated cases, and working with specialists to formulate a treatment plan. She says AVS is her ideal clinical setting, as she gets to work with talented colleagues in a state-of-the-art facility.
When not treating emergency patients, Dr. McLoughlin can be found spending time with her Terrier mix, Snitch, at their Ojai home.
